“Patterns” is the Photo Theme for April
Patterns – Patterns are all around us, but we rarely think to photograph them. It’s as if we’re pre-programmed to only photograph obvious subjects – like people, pets, and scenery. If that sounds like you, then you’re missing out. Not only are there countless opportunities to photograph these abstract patterns, but the results can be truly fantastic. Here are some tips:
- Patterns are found wherever strong graphic elements (lines, shapes, forms colors) repeat themselves.
- Shoot from different perspectives.
- Filling the frame by eliminating distracting elements amplifies the impact of your pattern.
- Use patterns as a background. Make sure it adds to the foreground subject.
- Combine patterns, especially if they contrast each other.
- Create your own patterns from things you have around the house.
Create photographs that fit the theme and upload up to five of them to the club’s Monthly Photo Themes flickr group. Post them during April, not before or after, that way they’ll appear together with other club member’s images.
