Doan Ranch, Gilroy CA – Shootout
Date: April 12, 2015 | Time: 10:00AM – 2:00PM
Here’s your chance to photograph the not-yet-open-to-the-public Doan Ranch that’s part of the Santa Clara Valley Open Space Authority. The club has arranged for docents to guide us to the most picturesque sections of the park to capture the flowered covered hills, meadows and perhaps a running creek. This isn’t a hike, but a photography walk where we decide where we’d like to go. We can even break into small groups as interests arise. The walk will be mostly flat with an option of climbing a hill if you want. You will be fully exposed to the sun, so bring a hat and some sunscreen. The shootout is limited to 20 participants and accordingly is restricted to club members only.
Equipment you should consider are: a lens, or several lenses, covering 24mm to 400mm; a sturdy tripod; a fully charged battery; and, an extra memory card. A remote or cable shutter release is optional, but recommended if using a tripod. Dress appropriately for the weather.
Please pack a meal and plan on picnicking in the park. You will also need to bring your own toiletries as there are no lavatory facilities in the park. You are required to pack out what you bring in – including toiletries. “Take only pictures, leave only footprints.”
Carpools will leave promptly at 9:30AM from the Morgan Hill Library arriving at approximately 10:00AM. The group will be required to leave the park no later than 2:00PM.
Contact Noël Calvi to confirm your attendance, arrange carpools, or obtain additional information. Please include your cell phone number and email address.
After the shootout club members can upload their best images to the club’s Shootout flickr® group pool. Title your images “Doan Ranch” and tag or keyword them with the date “12APR15“. If you are a club member but not a member of flickr® learn how to join here.
